Royal Enfield has introduced a cutting-edge connected vehicle solution in India known as ROYAL ENFIELD WINGMAN.
This innovative system is designed to offer riders an enhanced and more connected experience with their motorcycles, ensuring seamless connectivity, real-time insights, and dedicated support through the Royal Enfield Grid.
Set to debut with the newly unveiled Super Meteor 650, Wingman will be integrated as a standard fitment in forthcoming models.
This connected solution aims to improve the riding experience by providing riders with crucial vehicle-related data and proactive support.
The Wingman system, accessible through the Royal Enfield app on both Android and iOS devices, is supported by a telematics hardware, promising an engaging and user-friendly interface.
Currently exclusive to the Indian market, the feature will be offered as standard for customers booking the Super Meteor 650 from November 16, 2023, at an additional cost of INR 6500/- over the ex-showroom price. Existing Super Meteor owners can also opt for this feature by purchasing the device and bearing the nominal fitment cost.
Commenting on the launch, Mr. B Govindarajan, CEO of Royal Enfield, said, that he feels the Wingman will help customers not just get closer to their motorcycles, but to the brand as well.
The WINGMAN system presents real-time motorcycle health updates, including fuel level, battery status, and service alerts, through an interactive dashboard on the app.
Additionally, it encompasses enhanced security features like engine on/off alerts and GPS-based functionalities, enabling location tracking, last parked location tracking, and a "walk-to-my-motorcycle" feature.
One of the highlights includes providing riders with incisive data on their daily rides, riding patterns, trip information, maximum speed, average speed, sudden braking, and acceleration notifications.
The system equips riders with real-time guidance, vehicle alerts, and roadside assistance, empowering them to plan their rides with confidence and access support anytime and anywhere across the country.
The customer support team ensures proactive intervention in case of potential technical issues, reaching out to customers before they encounter any problems. How will this work in the real world remains to be seen.
Additionally, riders can instantly seek assistance from the GRID Support via the app during their rides.
This is a good initiative by the Chennai based firm, as they embrace technology. It would also be interesting to see how this is accepted and adopted by brand loyalists who are more from the retro school of thought.
